Jīngshuō 經說
‘explanations of the canons’. Collective designation for Jīngshuō shàng and Jīngshuō xià, two chapters associated with the Jīng chapters. The Jīngshuō provide examples, clarifications, and arguments intended to explain or justify the canons. Their precise relationship to the Jīng has been a major subject of debate since the Qīng dynasty. Lǔ Shèng’sMòbiàn zhù xùdescribes this relationship through the principleyǐn shuō jiù jīng(‘using the explanations to illuminate the canons’), which became highly influential in later attempts to reconstruct the structure of theMòjīng.
