Yǐn shuō jiù jīng 引說就經

‘using the explanations to illuminate the canons’, a principle stated in Lǔ Shèng’s Mòbiàn zhù xù and central to the reconstruction and interpretation of the Mòjīng. According to this principle, the Jīngshuōchapters should be read as explanations of the corresponding Jīng passages rather than as independent texts. Although little noticed for more than a millennium, the principle became essential to late-Qīng attempts to reconstruct the organisation of the Mòjīng, shaping debates about the relationship between canons and explanations from Liáng Qǐchāo to the present day.
