Mòjīng 墨經

(literally ‘Mohist canons’). Modern designation for the logical and dialectical writings preserved within the Mòzǐ. In its narrowest sense the term refers to the four Jīng and Jīngshuō chapters. In broader usage it may also include Dàqǔ and Xiǎoqǔ. Modern discussions of Mohist logic frequently employ the term in this broader sense. The text survives in a heavily corrupted form, and much modern scholarship has been devoted to reconstructing its original organisation and meaning. Reconstructions of theMòjīnghave often been guided by the principleyǐn shuō jiù jīng, first explicitly associated with the text in Lǔ Shèng’sMòbiàn zhù xùThe modern history of the Mòjīng has been dominated by two related tasks: reconstructing its original textual organisation and reconstructing the logical theories it contains.
