Mòzǐ 墨子
‘Master Mò’, a composite text preserving the teachings of Mò Dí and later generations of Mohists. The work contains several distinct bodies of material, including the doctrinal triads Shàngxián, Shàngtóng, Jiān’ài, Fēi Gōng, Jiéyòng, Jiézàng, Tiānzhì, Míngguǐ, Fēi Yuè, Fēi Mìng, and Fēi Rú, which develop Mohist views on government, warfare, economy, religion, and social order; the dialogue chapters Gēngzhù, Guìyì, Gōngmèng, Lǔwèn, and Gōngshū, which display Mohist reasoning in debate, consultation, and practical decision-making; the military and engineering writings known collectively as the Chéngshǒu piān, which apply systematic reasoning to problems of defence and organisation; and the dialectical chapters later known as the Mòjīng, which preserve the most sophisticated Mohist discussions of language, knowledge, classification, and argumentation. The Mòzǐ is the principal source for Mohist philosophy and the only surviving source for Mohist logic.
